UMA was recently contracted by one off their customers to 3D print a heart to assist in the development of heart implants and surgical instruments. The scale model of the heart was printed in two halves, and assembled. Each half is hollow, with openings for different veins and arteries. They have included a couple of cut out windows to visually see inside the heart, along with openings for cameras, to simulate a surgery. The customer can now demonstrate, deploy, and test their implants anywhere they take the model!
The heart was print on UMA’s Stratasys uPrint SE Plus 3D printer. This 3D printer can handle parts up to 8″ x 8″, with a height up to 6″. The 3D printer prints with ABSplus thermoplastic, available in 9 colors!
